Last night I saw Attack the Block and I. LOVED it! It’s R for the language and some violent alien death scenes, so it’s not going to be for everybody, but it’s a fantastic story about a young man realizing his many grave mistakes and atoning for his actions. Also it’s about aliens in south London, and little boys, brave as soldiers, earning street cred. It’s amazing. Review coming soon.
The movies coming out this weekend are Warrior, a film about two brothers struggling to make it in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting world, and Contagion, a movie with a lot of big-name stars about a fast-spreading disease. I have a feeling it’s going to make me paranoid about washing my hands the way that watching The Birds made me paranoid about watching out for robins and sparrows for awhile. Also this week, Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star, which looks to be yet another raunchy comedy, this one about an idiot trying to live up to his parents’ porn star reputations. I think I’ll pass.
Here’s a look at Contagion:
I mentioned The Ides of March a few posts ago. It certainly looks like it will be interesting. There are some good lines just in the trailer, like “it doesn’t matter what you thought, it matters what you did, it matters what you didn’t do!”, as well as the voice-over of “Dignity matters, integrity matters,” while all this backstabbing and scandalous secret-trading is going on. Looking forward to seeing if the movie is as good as the trailer, this October.
